80th Anniversary/Founder’s Day Celebration

The Lutheran Church of Nigeria celebrated her 80th Anniversary/Founder’s day. The event took place at the Church National Headquarters, Obot Idim Ibesikpo with the theme “Abundant Grace to Press On” climaxed on Sunday with thanksgiving with the attendance of top government personalities, Lutheran Church Missouri Synod representatives and LCN Congregations to witness the occasion.

His Grace, Most Rev. Christian Ekong in his anniversary address commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for impacting his vision of Dakkada philosophy on the lives of Akwa Ibom people and providing an enabling operational environment. He also thanked Ministers, Fellowships and Institutions for their support and service to the church and success of the occasion. He appreciated the contributions of Founding Fathers and Past Presidents of the Church for laying a solid foundation. In his words “Brethren, our bedrock are the abundant grace of God, the greatest foundation gift of God’s grace, is that the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ became our Saviour, God did not spare His only Son”.

He presented a Holy Bible as a mark of anniversary gift to Governor Emmanuel and pleaded with the State government to remember its campaign promise to the Lutheran Church of Nigeria on construction of access road linking to Lutheran University of Nigeria, Obot Idim. He therefore prayed for more vision and wisdom for the governor and his cabinets.

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Moses Ekpo, while presenting a key note address thanked God for bringing light to this part of the world through Rev. Dr. Jonathan Udo Ekong who brought Lutheran Church of Nigeria to Ibesikpo Asutan and Nigeria at large stressing education, health care and other humanitarian services. Governor Udom assured the Church of his administration readiness to assist the church achieve the said goal.

The National Vice President of the church, Bishop Matthew Okata, while speaking with the newsmen commended the founder of the church and other missionaries who did not give up despite the challenges they encountered in the course of propagating the gospel. Hence, he encouraged the members of the church to see the anniversary lecture as awakening call for greater responsibility for church development and society.

One of the awardees, the initiator of Luther Messengers, Mr. Uduakobong Akpan expressed gratitude to Almighty God for increasing the number of members of the organization which he started with 23 members to 806 members across the country. He also appreciated Lutheran Church of Nigeria for recognizing him with the awards of excellence. He appreciates Governor Udom Emmanuel for always giving prority to wards the advancement of God’s kingdom. He prayed God to impact him and His cabinets with more wisdom and vision to polot the affairs of the state.

Some of the dignitaries who attended the ceremony include the Executive Governor, Akwa Ibom State Mr. Udom Emmanuel who was represented by the Deputy Governor Mr. Moses Ekpo, Aniekan Uko Member representing Ibesikpo Asutan, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Transition Chairman Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, Mr. Ukana Udofia among others.
