Abundant Grace to Press On

GOODWILL  REMARK PRESENTED BY THE PRESIDENT/ARCHBISHOP, HIS GRACE THE MOST REV. CHRISTIAN EKONG ON THE OCCASION OF THE 80TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHURCH

God is able to make all grace abound to you.

Once again, in the language of St Paul the apostle, we are reminded of the prodigal nature of the love of God, the extravagance of God’s grace, and the expensiveness of the blessings God confers on us. It is so typical of the New Testament. The apostle tells the Romans that “we are more than conquerors through him that loved us”. We are hyper-conquerors of sin and death and the devil. Peter speaks to his readers of “joy unspeakable and full of glory”. The Philippians are told by St Paul of God meeting all their needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. The Lord Jesus Christ said that he came that men might have life and have it more abundantly.

Brethren, our bedrock are the abundant grace of God. The greatest foundation gift of God’s grace, is that the son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ became our Saviour, God did not spare his only son.

  • He did not spare the life and times of Dr. Jonathan Udo Ekong
  • He did not spare the birth of Lutheran Church of Nigeria in 1936 with 16 congregations of Ibesikpo United Church.
  • He did not spare the fostering of the 16 congregations through the mission work of LCMS Missionaries and indigenous pastors, evangelist and lay-preachers to the present day 433 congregations in 21 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.
  • He did not spare the equipping of the pastors and evangelist for the office of the Sacred Ministry- preaching the gospel, and administering the Sacraments.
  • He did not spare effecting such social support as establishing schools facilitating healthcare services, environmental improvement and promotion of government policies toward good governance at all levels.

As we celebrate 80 years of God’s activity of salvation in Christ for us, and as we look forward to the next celebration of 100 years of our church, God is able to:

  • See us through the establishment of the Lutheran University  Nigeria, in Obot Idim
  • See us through planting Lutheran Church of Nigeria in every State of the Nigerian State
  • See us become a strong confessional Lutheran Body
  • See us through the development of Youths in our church for present and future leadership.

With God nothing is impossible. “He is able to do immeasurable more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” – (Eph.3:20). Therefore, whatever the power of the devil and his host, however great the combined forces of the authorities of this world, however far the professing church has fallen into declension, however weak the people of God may be today has no debilitating effect on the Almighty Powers Who reigns in heaven and does whatever he pleases. The Lord was able to command the winds and the waves. He is able to save us all! He is able to save His CHURCH by His Grace which abound.
